Steve Siegelbaum Elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies

Membership in the IOM is considered one of the highest honors awarded health and medicine in the United States

Steve Siegelbaum, Professor and Chair of the Department of Neuroscience and Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medicial Institute, was one of only 70 researchers in the United States elected this year to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. Dr. Siegelbaum, who has been a member of the faculty of Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons since 1981, studies the electrical properties of neurons and synapses to determine role of neural circuitry in learning, behavior, and memory. Dr. Siegelbaum was also recently elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, one of the nation's most prestigious and oldest honorary societies.
